Mill Lodge
The brief was to prepare a scheme for upgrading the existing house by changing the windows, cladding the roof and extending.
This is the second substantial project which I undertook for long standing clients. It was a question of downsizing from an existing house in Danbury.
An existing house built in the 1960s provided the right level of accommodation (given some extension) but had the most unfortunate appearance. The brief was to prepare a scheme for upgrading the existing house by changing the windows, cladding the roof and extending.
The scheme was developed and granted Planning Approval even though it was next to a site of scientific interest and within a conservation area. Later, it was decided to knock the existing house down and re-build it off the existing foundations but exactly the same design was proposed. There was quite a lot more to the project in terms of providing a tennis court and a stunning interior but above all to maintain the existing garden.
