Respecting the past.
Innovating the future.
After a grounding in large London practices, Andrew became ‘apprenticed’ to his father and the family firm in Canterbury which he continued to run and manage for over 40 years. Andrew developed the firm from a provincial practice to one offering regionally recognised specialist services.
It started with just five people but with support and dedication from others, the firm peaked at 120 people in the 1990's.
“My son, James, joined the firm in 2002 and learnt the profession for over 10 years. An incredible opportunity arose for him and he decided to leave and set up on his own.
So, when my time was up, I was very lucky to be able to join the new family firm, James Clague Architects, specialising in listed buildings and residential in sensitive locations."
Andrews Statement on joining James Clague Architects Ltd:
"I’d like to think that I have been able to bring a wealth of experience achieved through hard work and 'get back to basics' in terms of the key principles of practice and most particularly to be able to concentrate on projects and not management.
James and I concentrate on giving our clients exceptional service and design particularly in residential, conservation and masterplanning sectors. There is very little that we haven’t done before or that would phase us but everyday one learns a little bit more. It's our pleasure to bring that experience for our clients’ benefit. Working with good people is what drives us every day.
My particular expertise is in the conservation of Churches and other historic buildings as well as residential master planning, almshouse design, hotels, residential and schools work.”
Responsible for design and project management.
